I came to realize that the knowledge gained from Veterinary textbooks and formal education was only a start. {An excellent foundation, I might add, but not the complete picture.}

I now know that the true art of practice is achieved only after years of experience. Experience that your well-meaning vet may not have.

When I started in practice - of course - I was treating patients by the textbook.  I knew something was missing, but I didn't know what it was.  I had a sense of awkwardness  and incompleteness.

It was years later when the puzzle finally came together and I realized that it was my experience that had filled in the missing piece.

I realized that the sense of fulfillment that I had been experiencing was achieved through blending textbook with real life. My  awkwardness  and incompleteness had vanished.
